The members and Convener of Pakistan-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Senate of Pakistan has strongly condemned the recent provocative attack of Armenia against Azerbaijan.

SENATE OF PAKISTAN

SEN ATOR MUHAMMAD TALHA MAHMOOD

Chairman Senate Standing Committee

Cabinet Secretariat

AND

Establishment Division

Honourable Member of Parliament, Milli Majlis,

Republic of Azerbaijan

Islamabad, l6 July 2020

Indeed it's a matter of deep sorrow to know that Armenian forces resorted to use of tanks and artillery fire resulting in loss of precious lives of soldiers and civilians in Tovuz district of your beloved and our brotherly country Azerbaijan. I extend my heartfelt commiserations with all my colleagues, counterparts and courageous people of Azerbaijan on consequent passing away of Major General Poland Hashimov, Col llgar Mirzayev and other officers in the line of duty while defending the territorial integrity of their motherland. The sacrifices rendered by these illustrious soldiers will not go in vain and will always be commemorated in the annals of history.

The act of needless lethal shelling on soldiers and civilian amounts to transgression in contravention of the UN cease-fire accord and is condemnable in the strongest possible terms. At this juncture, when a slew of countries are coping with Covid-19 consequences, indulgence in provocative attacks on boarders causing casualties are the actions demonstrative of destabilising the environment of peace and harmony essential for coexistence. We all share collective obligation to make concerted and resolute  endeavours  to  uphold  the  sacrosanct  principles  of  acknowledging  and  respecting  the inviolability and sovereignty of our  borders; fostering conditions conducive for  safety, security and human dignity of the people in our respective countries aimed at their peaceful and prosperous living.

However, I assure you of my steadfast solidarity and cooperation with the brotherly people of Azerbaijan and its esteemed parliamentarians. I will surely raise this most important matter in the Senate of Pakistan thereby addressing and inviting the attention of all the stakeholders. Undoubtedly, the rising tension at the Armenian-Azerbaijan borders has reached extremely dangerous proportions which require immediate cessation of hostilities and decisive settlement of a long-standing dispute of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Profound regards, respects and prayers.
